What is a defining moment in your fitness journey? And why do you ride /row /teach fitness?

I struggled with crippling anxiety and OCD growing up, as well as yo-yo'ing weight, chronic pain and migraine. I never fell in love with fitness or exercise. I figure skated during my youth, and tried some bootcamp-style workouts, to get the job done (i.e. lose weight), but it was never something I enjoyed.

When I went to my first spin class four years ago something magical happened. For reals. It was almost instant. It has changed me in so many ways I can't even explain. Most notably would be that I lost over 45lbs doing something that felt like just plain fun for me. It's bike dancing, what's more fun than that? I regained my confidence. I've also been able to treat my anxiety, OCD and pain issues without medication - which was a major feat for me, and not always something that's possible. When I spin, my mind is clear and I leave with a greater sense of calm and focus. I hope to be able to help others on their journey, to reach heights they may have never thought possible. I sure as hell didn't think they were for me!

What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

Dance, sing and listen for the chirping birds outside my window. Actually, I hit the snooze button about 16 times and zombie-walk to Starbucks (with lipstick on my teeth) for my requisite venti 5-shot Americano. Black. Then I go play Mad Men all day. ;)

What is the one song you could play on repeat and never get tired of?

Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. Or maybe Man in the Mirror. Any MJ, really. According to my iTunes "plays" though, Jubel by Klingande has the honour of most listened to track.

How would your best friend describe you?

My best friend would describe me as the person who gives him belly rubs and water. Occasional milk bones.

My human BFFs would describe me as a workaholic, vegetarian, organic-pushing, dog-loving, coffee-fanatic... who presents with aggressive social-media-junkie behaviours. Wants all the handbags. Direct quote from anon, "she's also likely the one whose fingerprint you'll find in the display ice cream cake." Very busy and awesome. ;) "Cool beans."
